The SepsiTest UMD is an in-vitro diagnostic kit that offers a rapid, unbiased, and culture-independent pathogen detection and identification of bacterial and fungal pathogens in various clinical specimens. The test can detect non-culturable and antibiotic-inhibited pathogens and identify more than 1,350 microorganisms.
The kit comes with one protocol suitable for a broad range of clinical specimens, including fluids, tissues, and swabs. The test uses PCR or Real-Time PCR assays targeting 16S and 18S rRNA genes of bacteria and fungi and allows for the identification of bacterial and fungal species by Sanger sequencing.
The kit is suitable for daily routine diagnosis of materials that often remain negative in culture due to fastidious pathogens or antibiotic treatment before sampling. The kit can be used with whole blood, CSF, BAL, synovial aspirates, ascites fluid, peritoneal aspirates, pus, blood culture, ultrasonic fluids (prostheses), tissue biopsies, and swabs from various sources. The process of microbial DNA enrichment and isolation from body fluids and tissue samples is also available semi- and fully automated.

Application Notes
SepsiTest™-UMD from Molzym is the ultimate solution for rapid and accurate pathogen detection and identification of bacterial and fungal pathogens in a wide range of clinical specimens including body fluids, tissues, and swabs. With a simple protocol for all types of specimens, the test detects intact, non-culturable, and antibiotic-inhibited pathogens, making it ideal for the identification of fastidious pathogens.
With more than 1,350 microorganisms identified so far, the test boasts of high diagnostic sensitivity and specificity, making it the perfect tool for daily routine diagnosis of specimens that often remain negative in culture. The CE IVD-marked molecular test is designed for the culture-independent detection and identification of a broad range of Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, and fungi within a working day.
SepsiTest™-UMD comes with PCR or Real-Time PCR assays targeting 16S and 18S rRNA genes of bacteria and fungi, identification of bacterial and fungal species by Sanger sequencing, PCR and extraction controls, and reagents guaranteed to be DNA-free. The test can analyze up to 10 ml samples in combination with Add-On 10.
Typical specimens that can be tested with SepsiTest™-UMD include whole blood, CSF, BAL, synovial aspirates, ascites fluid, peritoneal aspirates, pus, blood culture, ultrasonic fluids (prostheses), tissues biopsies, including abscesses, bones, organs, heart valves, stents, pacemakers, and swabs from wounds, organs, bones, prostheses, teeth, and others.
With a sequencing strategy and BLAST analysis and an option for semi- and fully automated testing, SepsiTest™-UMD offers the ultimate solution for rapid and accurate detection and identification of bacterial and fungal pathogens in a wide range of clinical specimens.
The kit also includes instructions for use, as well as a protocol for the detection of microbial DNA in blood samples using real-time PCR.
