The SwiftX™ Media Extraction kit enables rapid extraction of RNA and DNA directly from biological samples present in transport media. Designed for professional laboratories, the workflow combines enzyme-assisted lysis with heat treatment to efficiently release nucleic acids from viruses, bacteria, and eukaryotic cells. The method produces amplification-ready RNA and DNA with minimal handling steps and supports PCR and other molecular detection technologies. SwiftX™ Media provides a streamlined solution for fast nucleic acid preparation from transport-medium samples in both research and diagnostic laboratory environments.
The SwiftX™ Media Extration Kit is developed for rapid extraction of RNA and DNA directly from biological samples present in transport media. Designed for professional laboratory use, the workflow isolates nucleic acids from viruses, bacteria, and eukaryotic cells using an enzyme-assisted lysis procedure combined with heat incubation.
Its streamlined workflow enables fast nucleic acid preparation with minimal handling steps, making it suitable for both manual and automated laboratory environments. SwiftX™ Media Extraction kit stabilizes viral particles, bacteria, and host cells prior to lysis and protects the released RNA and DNA by inactivating degrading enzymes during the extraction process. The resulting lysates are compatible with a wide range of downstream amplification technologies.
SwiftX™ Media Extraction kit is available in two product configurations:
• SwiftX™ Media RUO – for research use applications
• SwiftX™ Media CE-IVD – for in vitro diagnostic use in professional laboratories
Both versions use the same extraction principle but are intended for different regulatory environments and applications.
The kit includes:
• Buffer ME – extraction buffer for stabilization and lysis of biological material
• Component P – enzyme blend used to activate Buffer ME before extraction
After activation, the buffer enables efficient lysis of viruses, bacteria, and eukaryotic cells during the heat incubation step while stabilizing the released RNA and DNA for downstream molecular detection.
SwiftX™ Media supports nucleic acid extraction from:
• Viruses
• Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
• Eukaryotic cells including human cells
Samples eluted in transport media such as:
• Saline
• Phosphate-buffered saline (PBS)
• Universal Transport Medium (UTM)
• Viral Transport Medium (VTM)
• Liquid Amies
Typical specimen sources include:
• Nasal swabs
• Nasopharyngeal swabs
• Oral swabs
• Skin swabs
(Applicable to SwiftX™ Media RUO and SwiftX™ Media CE-IVD)
• activate Buffer ME by dissolving Component P
• mix 100 µL transport medium sample with 200 µL activated Buffer ME
• incubate lysis mixture for 10 minutes at 90 °C
• allow the lysate to cool briefly and mix by tapping or vortexing
• transfer an aliquot of the lysate for downstream amplification or molecular detection
Extracted nucleic acids can be directly applied to PCR-based detection assays and other molecular amplification workflows.
