The EZER™ Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV) Antigen Rapid Test is a chromatographic lateral flow immunoassay for the qualitative detection of hMPV antigen from nasopharyngeal or pharyngeal swab specimens. Optimized for early-stage infection, the test detects viral antigen at the point when hMPV viral load is typically highest and clinical symptoms are most pronounced.
hMPV infection occurs frequently in infants and elderly populations and may lead to bronchiolitis and other lower respiratory tract infections. Because reinfection is common and symptoms overlap with RSV and influenza, rapid antigen-based detection plays a key role in differential diagnosis.
Results are available within 15 minutes, enabling timely clinical decisions without the need for specialized laboratory infrastructure. Clinical evaluation against PCR methods demonstrated high relative sensitivity, specificity, and overall accuracy, making this assay a reliable frontline diagnostic tool for routine respiratory testing and outbreak settings.
Each kit contains:
20 EZER™ Human Metapneumovirus test devices
20 sterile swabs
20 extraction tubes with buffer
20 nozzles
1 tube stand
1 package insert with instructions
The test detects Human Metapneumovirus antigen through immunochromatographic analysis. If hMPV antigen is present in the specimen, a red line appears in the test region (T) together with the control (C) line, confirming a valid positive result.
Human Metapneumovirus is an RNA virus that causes acute respiratory tract infections, particularly in infants, young children, and elderly individuals. Primary infection usually occurs early in life, and reinfection is common. Because clinical symptoms closely resemble RSV infection, laboratory confirmation is essential.
Detection of hMPV antigen:
Supports early confirmation of respiratory infection
Enables differentiation from RSV and influenza-like illness
Facilitates timely patient triage in pediatric and geriatric care
Provides actionable results when molecular testing is unavailable
As antigen levels are highest during the acute phase, this test is most effective when used shortly after symptom onset.
Developed by Genesis Biotech, this assay incorporates monoclonal antibodies specific for Human Metapneumovirus antigen, conjugated to visible labeling particles. The test detects both major hMPV genotypes (A and B).
Performance summary (PCR comparison):
Relative sensitivity: ~92%
Relative specificity: 100%
Overall accuracy: up to 96.3%
Time to result: 15 minutes
Limit of detection:
Genotype A: 4.5 × 10³ TCID50/mL
Genotype B: 3.0 × 10³ TCID50/mL
No cross-reactivity was observed with common respiratory viruses, including Influenza A/B, RSV, Adenovirus, Rhinovirus, or seasonal human coronaviruses.
Sample types:
Nasopharyngeal swab
Pharyngeal swab
Test procedure:
Extract the collected swab in extraction buffer
Add 3 drops of extracted sample to the cassette
Read results after 15 minutes
Result interpretation:
Positive: Two red lines (C and T)
Negative: One red control line (C only)
Invalid: No control line — retest required
The cassette format and short turnaround time allow efficient testing in both clinical laboratories and point-of-care settings.
The EZER™ Human Metapneumovirus Antigen Rapid Test is intended for:
Early diagnosis of acute hMPV respiratory infection
Pediatric and geriatric respiratory screening
Differential diagnosis of RSV-like illness
Hospital and outpatient respiratory testing programs
By combining rapid turnaround with reliable antigen detection, this test supports improved clinical decision-making and optimized patient management during respiratory infection seasons.
