The EZER™ OXA-23 Carbapenemase Rapid Test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of OXA-23 Carbapenemase in Acinetobacter spp. colonies. This test provides a fast, accurate, and easy-to-use solution to identify carbapenem-resistant strains—particularly A. baumannii—within just 15 minutes.
OXA-23 Carbapenemase is a class D β-lactamase enzyme responsible for a major portion of carbapenem resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii. Early and reliable identification is critical for guiding infection control measures and antimicrobial therapy.
Designed for clinical laboratories, the EZER™ test detects the presence of OXA-23 with a simple sample extraction and visual readout, eliminating the need for PCR or sequencing. The assay shows 100% sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy compared to molecular reference methods across 273 clinical isolates.
The test is ready-to-use and contains pre-filled extraction buffer tubes and membrane-based test cassettes. A clear red line in the test (T) and control (C) zones indicates an OXA-23-positive result. It is ideal for infection control units, reference labs, and antimicrobial resistance surveillance.
The EZER™ test kit includes:
20 test devices (cassette format)
20 extraction tubes prefilled with buffer
1 package insert with instructions
The test cassette contains monoclonal antibodies against OXA-23 Carbapenemase, fixed on a nitrocellulose membrane. The buffer extract of a bacterial colony is applied, and if OXA-23 is present, red lines appear at both T and C regions.
OXA-23 Carbapenemase is a carbapenem-hydrolyzing class D β-lactamase (CHDL) frequently found in multidrug-resistant A. baumannii strains. This enzyme breaks down carbapenem antibiotics, rendering treatments ineffective.
It is strongly associated with:
Nosocomial infections in ICUs
Burn wound colonization
Postoperative infections
Ventilator-associated pneumonia
Catheter-associated urinary tract infections
Rapid detection of OXA-23-positive isolates enables:
Targeted antibiotic therapy
Infection prevention protocols
Outbreak containment
Monitoring of carbapenem resistance trend

This immunochromatographic test uses monoclonal antibodies against OXA-23, labeled with colloidal gold. It provides visual results without instrumentation and is designed for rapid point-of-care or lab-based diagnosis.
Relative Sensitivity: 100%
Relative Specificity: 100%
Accuracy: 100%
Detection Limit: 0.1 ng/mL (recombinant OXA-23 protein)
No cross-reactivity with other resistance markers such as:
OXA-24, OXA-48, OXA-58, OXA-181
NDM-1, KPC-2, VIM-1, CTX-M, SHV, TEM
MCR-1, AmpC, rmtB, sul1, tet(A), and more
Touch 3 colonies from agar plate using a 1 µL loop
Suspend in provided extraction buffer tube
Vortex to homogenize
Open foil pouch and remove test cassette
Apply 3 drops (80 µL) of extracted sample to sample well
Wait 15 minutes and interpret results:
Positive: Red lines at C and T
Negative: Red line at C only
Invalid: No line at C – retest with a new cassette
A positive line may appear within 3 minutes but full incubation is required for reliable negatives.
The EZER™ OXA-23 Carbapenemase Rapid Test is ideal for:
Clinical microbiology labs screening A. baumannii
Infection control teams in hospital settings
AMR surveillance programs in healthcare systems
Reference laboratories in high-burden regions
By enabling rapid identification of OXA-23-positive organisms, this test supports:
Timely therapy adjustment
Early patient isolation
Limiting spread of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter
Reducing reliance on costly molecular diagnostics
Its ease of use and high specificity make it suitable even in lower-resource settings with high infection risk.
