Molecular Background
Candida auris is an emerging fungal pathogen first identified in 2009 and recognized globally as a serious healthcare threat due to its multidrug resistance and high mortality rates. It is commonly associated with healthcare-associated (nosocomial) infections and can spread via contaminated surfaces and patient contact.
Colonization is most frequently detected in the axilla and groin, although the organism can also be isolated from the respiratory tract, urogenital tract, and other body sites. While often asymptomatic, C. auris can cause severe infections such as candidaemia, wound infections, and pneumonia. Accurate molecular detection is critical due to frequent misidentification by conventional methods.

The C. auris PCR Detection Kit is designed for reliable performance in routine diagnostic and screening workflows. The assay uses dual-channel fluorescence detection: the FAM channel detects C. auris DNA, while the HEX channel serves as an internal control to verify DNA quality and detect PCR inhibition.
The assay incorporates “hot start” PCR technology to reduce non-specific amplification and improve sensitivity. Uracil-DNA glycosylase (UDG) is included to prevent carry-over contamination, ensuring consistent and reproducible results.
With high analytical sensitivity and near 100% specificity under validated conditions, the kit enables accurate detection even in low-level colonization samples. It is suitable for a range of specimen types, particularly skin swabs from axilla and groin, as well as other validated sample types.
