This kit in detail
Description
H5N1 is an RNA virus in the genus Influenza A and the family Orthomyxoviridae. Originally isolated in birds (and therefore sometimes called avian influenza), the different strains are then classified into two categories: low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) A viruses, which typically cause little to no clinical signs, and highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A viruses, that usually cause severe clinical signs. This virus mainly affects birds and poultry, but cases of human disease have been recorded. Though there is no human-to-human transmission of H5N1 that has ever been recorded, sporadic human infections from extensive physical contact with infected birds have been documented by the CDC. Previous outbreaks, caused predominantly by the H5N1 strain, have resulted in hundreds of H5N1-infected human cases and extremely high numbers of poultry infections, followed by a 50% mortality rate.
