The Presto 500 CT/NG PCR Kit detects Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the two most frequently diagnosed bacterial sexually transmitted infections, by multiplex real-time PCR.
Targets and detection
The assay amplifies a specific segment of the CT cryptic plasmid and of the NG opa genes. The amplification products are detected in real time with internal probes, each carrying a separate fluorescent reporter dye, so both organisms are reported from the same reaction and a double infection is identified in one test.
Isolation amplification control
An isolation amplification control is carried through the procedure. It shows whether inhibitory substances in the clinical sample interfered with amplification, or whether isolation failed, which is what distinguishes a true negative from a failed run.
Controls and format
The kit contains a ready-to-use PCR mix, the isolation amplification control, separate positive controls for CT and for NG, a negative control, and a CT and an NG selector. One kit covers 500 reactions and is made in the Netherlands.
