About Echinococcus granulosus IgG ELISA Kit

Echinococcus granulosus IgG ELISA Kit

Cystic hydatid disease is caused by an infection with the cestode Echinococcus granulosus and is potentially dangerous for humans. New cases are mostly found in areas where dogs and livestock coexist. Adult worms mature in the intestine of the dog (definitive host) and the eggs are released in the feces. By an accidental ingestion in humans, oncospheres hatch in the duodenum, penetrate the intestine and are carrieds via the bloodstream to various organs. Hydatid cysts form in organs like liver (60-70 %), lungs and brain. The metacestode cyst develops over years in the patient and can, in most cases, be surgically removed after diagnosis. Medical imaging and serology give both usefull and complementary information on the nature of the cyst and concerning the issue of surgical intervention. The test uses an antigen preparation (hydatid fluid) which detects indiscriminately antibodies from patients with cystic hydatid disease (E. granulosus) or with alveolar echinococcosis (E. multilocularis).

Specifications of the Echinococcus granulosus IgG ELISA Kit

ELISA kit for the diagnosis of human echinococcoses

96 determinations of IgG antibodies using standard methodologies.

Wells sensitized with antigens from Echinococcus granulosus hydatid fluid.

8-wells polystyrene breakable strips : useful and economic format for laboratories with a small workload.

CE registration:  H-CH/CA01/IVD/01757

Sensitivities :

96% on cystic hydatid diseases (E. granulosus).
90% on alveolar echinococcoses (E. multilocularis).

Specificity : 97% negativity on blood donors (from Switzerland).

Cross-reactivities :

18% with helminthiases.
17% with protozooses.

In case of positive results, the use of the Em2-Em18 ELISA (No 9300) and a search for anti-8 kD band antibodies by western blot are recommended for a species-specific diagnosis.
