The BIOSYNEX AMPLIQUICK® Bordetella Kit is a molecular diagnostic tool for the detection and differentiation of four Bordetella species responsible for respiratory diseases, including whooping cough. These include B. pertussis, the major cause of whooping cough in humans, B. parapertussis, which causes a milder whooping cough-like illness, B. bronchiseptica, which often affects immunocompromised individuals and originates from animals, and B. holmesii, which can cause whooping cough-like symptoms or septicaemia. Early and accurate detection of these species is essential for effective treatment and to prevent the spread of infection.

Advanced qPCR technology for accurate results
The kit uses advanced qPCR technology with fluorescent probe hydrolysis to amplify and identify target gene sequences. It detects specific genes such as IS481 and ptxA-Pr for B. pertussis, h-IS1001 for B. holmesii, and FLA1 and FLA2 for B. parapertussis, while also distinguishing it from B. bronchiseptica. An internal control based on the human RNase P gene ensures the reliability of the sample collection, DNA extraction and amplification processes, preventing false negatives and validating the entire test procedure.
